The M.Sc. in Building Services Engineering is a postgraduate taught programme aimed at developing a specialised skill set that enables you to innovate and develop sustainable techniques to transmit back to the building industry.
Standards review and application, underpinning science, research and practical group work projects permeate through the programme required to develop such a skill set.
The delivery of this programme is varied, ranging from practical sessions to guest lectures by experts in their field asked to relate their technical expertise and experience to the upcoming generation of building services engineers. The programme culminates with a final year project brief that enables you to utilise the skill set acquired through the taught and practical sessions for a specific application.
The Degree of Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) from the University of Malta or from any other higher education institution recognised by Senate, obtained with at least Second Class (Honours).
In exceptional cases the Admissions Board, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board, may admit into the Course applicants not in possession of the qualification listed above, provided that it is satisfied that such applicants are in possession of other relevant academic or professional qualifications and experience that together are deemed to be comparable to the level of a first cycle degree. The admission of such applicants may be made conditional on the results of an interview.
You can submit your application online. The deadlines for submission of applications vary according to the intake and courses. We encourage all international applicants to submit their applications as soon as possible. This is especially important if you require a visa to travel and eventually stay in Malta.
The University of Malta has student accommodation on campus called Campus Hub. Campus Hub is just a 2-minute walk from the main campus. For more information, visit the accommodation website.
Our dedicated team at the student recruitment office is here to support you every step of the way. From the moment you start your application to the moment when you receive your decision letter, we're here to assist you. If you have any questions or need further information, don't hesitate to reach out to us. You can contact us at info@um.edu.mt, and our team will be more than happy to help.
After you receive an offer from us, our International Office will assist you with visas, accommodation and other related issues.

The programme offers a solid and grounded skill-set enabling you to assert yourself in the building and construction industry. A construction industry that continuously seeks sustainable means of design, execution and operation; perceives the engineering community as a fundamental pillar in providing the technical expertise to achieve its goal. By pursuing this programme will have a natural comparative advantage in being commissioned with the consultation of various building projects.
Moreover, the programme exposes you to various niche methods still in their infancy giving a wide-ranging scope to further your academic studies in the area via doctoral programmes and/or other professional development programmes.
